The Japanese yugen in handmade knotting technique is a truly special and unique art form. The color scheme of the rug preserves the color transparency intrinsic to watercolor paintings, creating a soft and ethereal effect. The curved lines and color spots add an element of movement, giving the impression of persistent motion.
This rug is hand-knotted from New Zealand wool and silk, with 100 knots per inch, making it a true masterpiece. The special challenge was to convey the watercolor technique in the rug which is accomplished using a unique thread mix. Each knot in the rug is made up of a track composed of three bundles of nine threads. Not only is there a wide range of colors in this carpet, but each thread before weaving is also selected from a range of colors. The choosing these tracks took hundreds of hours.
