Meet MAD Design Australia
MAD Design Australia is the family-owned design group behind EcoSmart Fire, the ventless bioethanol fireplace brand launched in 2004. From its Australian headquarters the group has grown into a global business with more than 250,000 installations in over 75 countries, including hotels and hospitality venues around the world. Alongside EcoSmart Fire, the group also designs Blinde Design outdoor furniture, HEATSCOPE heaters, e-NRG bioethanol fuel and its own Fluid Concrete. You can read more about the MAD Design Group story on their website.
We have admired their work for years. Every piece pairs clean, architectural design with a genuine, dancing flame, and because EcoSmart burners run on bioethanol they need no flue, chimney, gas or electrical connection. That opens up fireplaces for apartments, renovations, terraces and gardens where a traditional fire simply isn't possible. The burners are listed to UL 1370, certified to EN 16647 and compliant with the Australian bioethanol safety mandate.
Fire tables for indoor and outdoor living
The fire tables are where MAD Design truly shines, and they are the pieces we are most excited to share. Each is cast in Fluid Concrete in Natural, Graphite or Bone, with selected models also made in teak, and most can be ordered for outdoor use or fitted with an indoor kit for the living room.
Our favourite is the Gin 90 Bar fire table. At bar height with a long, uninterrupted line of flame from the XL900 burner, it turns a terrace, rooftop or pool deck into the place everyone gathers. Pair it with our Charla outdoor bar chair, whose 75 cm seat height is made for bar tables, and finish it with the LT90 all-season cover or L65 glass cover plate, both available as add-ons on the product page; the cover plate turns the flame channel into a flat table surface when the fire is off. The same design comes lower as the Gin 90 Chat fire table, perfect beside a lounge setting or ringed with Blinde Design Solo concrete stools.

For smaller courtyards and living rooms, the Mimosa 40 and Manhattan 50 bring the flame to coffee-table height, while the Wharf 65, Daiquiri 70VL, Cosmo 50, Vertigo 40L and Ark 40 give you a choice of shapes and scales for every setting. Browse them all in our fire tables collection.

Flex and Heritage: built-in fireplaces without a flue
For a fireplace that looks architectural, the Flex range is a designer's dream. These zero-clearance fireboxes build straight into joinery or a feature wall, in single-sided, bay, double-sided room divider, peninsula and corner formats. The award-winning Flex 50BY bay insert and the Flex single-sided firebox, available in twelve widths from a compact 578 mm to a monumental 4.2 metres, are two of our favourites, and each can be configured as all flame or with a decorative box. See the full range in our fireplace inserts collection, or explore EcoSmart's Flex range in more depth.

If you love the look of a traditional hearth, the Heritage fireplace insert gives you the proportions of a classic firebox in black with a stainless burner, in three sizes. It is an elegant way to bring a real fire into a high-rise apartment or a period home where the chimney is no longer usable.

Linear 65, designer fireplaces and burners
The Linear 65 fire pit kit sets a long, single line of flame into a tray dressed with black glass charcoal, ready to build into a bench, a planter or custom joinery, indoors or out. For freestanding pieces, the sculptural T-Lite 3, Pillar 3L in marble or oak, and the playful Pop 3L bring the flame to a side table, terrace or reading corner.

Designers and builders can also specify the burners on their own. The full ethanol burners range runs from the compact AB3 to the XL Series linear burners in 500, 700, 900 and 1200 mm lengths, in stainless steel or black, ready to drop into custom joinery, existing fireplaces and landscaping.
